Can anyone help with the history of floral table arrangements? A friend is doing a City and Guilds course in floral design, and needs to know the history of table arrangements. I've searched the net for info, but lots of searches seem to come up with summaries of books, and no real information. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!! Thanks! mystybrz replied: "This looks like a good place to start with links below the article:" Need craft ideas on table arrangements for wedding centerpieces. Something other than a candle with flowers.? This is for September and I can put a candle in a holder with water or flowers but I would like something crafty and different. helper replied: "Well how about decorating with something that interests both of you. A friend of mine got married and they're both into fishing so she put little plastic fish in a fish bowl with a little fishing pole sticking out if it. Then she wrote catch of the day and their names on a piece of paper and stuck it on the end of the fishing line. It was really cute. Think of something that you both like and come up with a unique centerpiece."
DoubleDMom replied: "My niece had beautiful arrangements on the tables. She had very tall vases and put a goldfish in the bottom of each vase. She then used orange gerber daisies coming out of the tops. Everyone loved them and she still has all the fish in an aquarium."
melaniemgray replied: "Do have a theme for the wedding? My wedding we did all white with very small touches of a very light pink. Use your colors the brides maids are wearing as inspiration. If they are wearing pale colors do something whimsical such as large taper candles with beautiful flowers surrounding them or hanging white lanterns.
If your colors are darker take personal things (GREAT IDEA) take silver frames and put pictures of you, your family, your significant other and their family. The guests will then want to mingle at the other tables so that they can look at all the pictures. If you put subtitles on the pictures they will really like that. :)
Remember your wedding should reflect you! It is all about the commitment you are making and the joining of your lives! Make sure it stays true to you!"

ArtisticCandles replied: "I have seen & heard about many different kinds of arrangements. You could go with edible arrangements like cookies or fruit. They are set up to make it look like flowers. You can do picture arrangements depicting your relationship. Some have done a mirror as a base, river stones & lighted tealights, its elegant & romantic. I have also seen "lollipop" trees as centerpieces. They are a small tree with a top of leaves & flowers in a round shape. Its nice & tall so ne views are blocked. There is also the fishbowl w/ goldfish or Japanese fighting fish w/ a few long stem roses in it. Rose petals with a matcing color ofconfetti sprinkleled on the tables is nice too."
Peggy L replied: "It will be fall - what about using pumpkins (you can get them in white if you want) and putting an arrangement of fall flowers and leaves." table arrangements need of help? My mother is throwing a surprise party for my father and wants to have blue of green hydrangea flowers incorporated as the center piece of each table. She has no idea what else to put with the flowers, or what color linen she should use for the tables. The party is going to be at night, so could candles be incorporated also? AMO 45 replied: "light but bright green linens and crisp white napkins will accentuate the hydrangeas(also one of my favorite flowers for centerpieces)think about just placing the blooms (no stems) in line lengthwise down the center of the table- trough like extending almost the entire table lengths add a large cream or blue tall pillar candle every few feet-you'll need nothing else and it will be stunning .you can do the same for round tables just use a round foam disk instead of rectaglular ones with one tall pillar candle in the center" somebody can give me video on how to do table arrangement? this is my first christmas w/my mother in law come over in my house and celebrate christmas.im not really good on table arrangement a good way on putting those silver ware etc.could any of u can give me a link or video in u tube how to do a perfect table arrangement pls.i appreciate ur help thanks. diana h replied: "You're better off with a diagram rather than a video. The source (below) shows a simple, concise table setting.
From left to right, you have your salad fork, place fork, place plate, place knife, place spoon, and tea spoon. Above this is the desert spoon and fork. To the left of this is the butter plate and butter knife.
The diagram (see source) doesn't show it, but you will put your water glass directly above the dinner knife. If you're serving wine, this glass goes above the water glass.
The fork on the far left is for the salad, and the spoon on the far right is for the soup.
The soup is served first. The bowl is set onto the place plate. When the guest is done, remove the bowl and the tea spoon.
Serve the salad. The salad plate is set onto the place plate. When the guest is done with their salad, the salad plate and the salad fork are removed.
This will leave the place fork on the left, the place plate in the middle, the place knife on the right, and the place spoon to the right of that.
The dinner plate is set onto the place plate.
The small plate and butter knife to the upper left is for butter.
When the guest is done with their dinner, they should have placed their place fork, place knife and place spoon on the plate for easy removal. If they didn't, simply put these on the dinner plate - and then remove the dinner plate (with the utensils on it). Leave the place plate.
The desert comes next; put it on the place plate. The spoon and fork at the top of the setting are for desert. Always provide both desert spoon and fork to give your guest the option - no matter what you're serving.
After desert, remove the place plate with the desert dish and desert utensils on it. Additionally, remove the butter knife and plate.
Serve coffee in a coffee cup on a saucer with a small spoon. Make sure there is cream and sugar (and sugar substitute) available on the table.
Happy hosting!" Non-floweror easy flower, non-candle table arrangements.? I have 3 days to decorate and important get together but I have never made flower arrangements, so I would prefer a non flower arrangement but they don't really want candles. It needs to be somewhat manly with a theme of reach for the stars. I am scared to death 30 people will be gathered together to give speeches ask questions etc...any easy ideas? JeanneS replied: "Sounds good !
Okay , since it's almost Christmas you will be able to find silver and gold stars at Micheal's or any other store that sells craft supplies in you area, buy a vase if you are only making 1 that is , some fresh cut flowers usually red and white or a huge poinsettia than a nice big bow , you will insert the stars in the middle one a little higher than the other tie the bow around the vase or pot and you will now have an arrangement fit to reach for the stars.
These are the stars that you will need .
Merry Christmas,"

Thanks. GG replied: "I am way out of my league here but I saw my wife and daughter get a nice vase, select flowers from a craft store and make their own.
I think this is the best advice because you end up with exactly what you want arranged the way you want."
Haydn replied: "Why would you want to?
Artificial flowers are very very naff.
Buy a pot plant, it will not only look nice but improve the air quality."

The reception is the usual rectangular room. How can one make it unique and elegant in a tight budget? hibiscus_princess replied: "white roses and baby breath flowers in a bouquet in little baskets on the tables?!"
dnt4get2luvme replied: "try using low flat glass bowls with floating candles and flowers floating in water...."
donna D replied: "try getting some clear sheeting of *Lexan at you Lowes store or a cheaper brand. it comes in all different sizes for uses.
(it looks the same as glass) it is called plexi-glass
try fitting it to the size of the table stretched out where everybody can be seated close together around you.
1. put table cloth overtable, have plenty of pictures of you and spouse before you got married , your family pictures, pics of the rehearsal dinner, showers, etc. to place all over the table.
2. place the plastic sheet over the top to protect the pics.
3. some inexpensive greenery to set in the center here and there with maybe some ribbons, candles or wedding favors stuck in them for guest to take home saying Mr & Mrs. John Doe are so happy that you could be a special part of their memories today. Thank you for coming!
you might also think of fresh potted flowers staged on top of cover boxes to make a quick flashy statement to give color to any room. mix and match flowers in pots of heights, shapes, colors. ferns are nice.
give away to the parties in your wedding for thank you gifts to let them be reminded that your love is like the flowers, it lives on. heyyyyy!
4. set some instamatic cameras around the table to make more memories when the party begins.
5. see if they have one of those mirrored balls for disco night stuff. low lights and the mirrored ball give elegance to any room. the bride and groom make the room glow."
Yazoo replied: "I suggest going on the Internet to "Brides" and "the Knot". The community rooms there have lots of brides planning their wedding and they can help you with nice centerpiece ideas. They also have tons of beautiful centerpiece pictures on those sites. Good Luck!"
Click replied: "First, you must have centerpieces.Table centrepieces can set the feel for the whole room, so it is important to get them right. They can range from a simple relaxed posy for an informal wedding, to sophisticated and ornate arrangements.
Remember your arrangement should not prevent guests from seeing and talking to each other. Either go for low arrangements that you can see over the top of, or tall thin arrangements.
In addition, to complete your wedding reception flowers you need some room arrangements. A cost-effective way to decorate the room is to go for a small number of large arrangements. These create a big impact. You can place the arrangements on pedestals just as people enter the room or either side of the top table.
Another popular idea is to have an arch of flowers. This is a great idea for the entrance to a marquee. Another idea to mark the entrance to a room or marquee, is to place a couple of flower trees either side of the entrance.
GOOD LUCK!" Where can I buy borganvillia flowers for my sisters table arrangements on the big day? My sister really loves borganvillia see link below for a view of the plant.
I want to buy these plants for her so she can use them in her flower decorations at the wedding but cant find a place in South Africa (Gauteng) where they actually sell them. Im not sure what to do. Im temepted to pick the neighbors plants and use those for the wedding but there is a much stronger supply of pink and purple and she want orange, yellow, white and red. Can anyone help? Emmaean replied: "Bougainvillea do not make good cut flowers. You will need to buy little plants in pots for your decorations. Decorate them with florists' foil or disguise them in an arrangement of Baby's Breath or Statice. Because you are going into autumn soon in South Africa I would think that someone would have little Bougies in bloom soon. Though they are not very frost-hardy they do bloom well during mild winters. Ask at nurseries and florists in your area for who grows their own Bougies or ask if they can get some small pots in. They should be willing to call around to their suppliers for you and ring you back with the answer. Tell them you only want plants in bloom." |
